Mozart of madras has done it again. He has got two oscar nominations for Original music and original song category. This is the second time for the two academy award winning music composer....

A.R. Rahman's crystal award.

A R Rahman is set to attend the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland, where he will receive the Crystal Award for his achievements in the world of art and music from the world economic forum. About 2000 other participants are expect to be present at the meeting which will complement Oscar winner A.R. Rahman. A.R. Rahman will also perform a presentation on his journey through music.

Ar rahman wins BAFTA nomination

Ar rahman has won the BAFTA nomination again. He got the nomination for this prestigious award for his original score in the film 127 hours. Already he had got a BAFTA two years ago for slum dog millionaire..

A.R. Rahman was born in Chennai to a hindu family. His father mr. shekhar was a music conductor for Malayalam movies . He even had worked with illayaraja. Rahman lost his father at a young age and his family rented out musical equipment as a source of income. He was raised by his mother Kareema (Kashturi). Since his early age he developed a huge passion for music . During these formative years, Rahman served as a keyboard player and an arranger in bands such as "Roots", with childhood friend and percussionist sivamani, John Anthony, Suresh Peters, JoJo and Raja. Rahman is the founder of the Chennai-based rock group, "Nemesis Avenue". At the age of 11, he joined, as a keyboardist, the troupe of illayaraja, famous tamil music director. one of many composers to whom musical instruments belonging to Rahman's father were rented. Rahman has also worked for m.s viswanathan, kunnakudi vaithyanadhan and many more. He then got a scholarship from trinity college of music where he graduated with a bachelor degree in music. Due to some personal crisis, Dileep Kumar embraced Islam and came to be known as A.R. Rahman.

His mother helped rahman to take the major decision in chosing the career. Unlike other mothers, she gave life to his ambitions. Rahman chose music as his career. Rahman set a small music recording studio called panchathan record inn. And started producing ad jingles and small tracks. Now this studio is developed into a state of the art music recording centre. He has such recording studios at Mumbai, Chennai and constructing one at u.s  for producing Hollywood films.

Ar rahman met mani ratnam in an function and played some samples to him. Mani ratnam was so impressed that he offered ar rahman a movie called roja. This was his debut in cinema world. Roja album was a great hit and also included in the times magazine’s 10 best tracks. Then he gave a series of hits in tamil film industry. Then he entered malalyalam film industry with yodha which was also a hit. He then entered hindi film industry with rangeela which was a huge hit. Then he did many hindi and tamil films. Ar rahman went on to release some albums with sony and bharat bhala. To commomerate 50 years of Indian independence he released an album called vande mataram which reunited the Indians with the feelings of patriotism and brother hood. Then he released albums like, national anthem, pray for me brothers, e.t.c.  he also composed for ‘bombay dreams’ which increased his international audiences.

Ar rahman have also worked in some foreign language films. In 2008 he scored music for ‘slum dog millionaire’ which won a golden globe, BAFTA, two academy awards, and many awards and recognitions. He has worked in mandarin, English, tamil, telugu, Malayalam, hindi, and kanada films. His mandarin film was warriors of heaven and earth. He did music for some English films like couples retreat, passage ( short film) and elizebeth the golden age. He is currently scoring music for 2 japanese films, 3 english films and some tamil and hindi films.
